This evening (Friday, September 18th), at sundown, the entire Judaic world will observe Yom Teruah – the Day of Trumpets. If you are unfamiliar with the fundamentals of the biblical calendar or the observation of God’s appointed times, I suggest having a read through the articles in the category Mo’edim or at a minimum, the articles; The Creator’s Calendar – Part one and The Creator’s Calendar – Part Two.
As I discussed in my prior article on the Festival of Trumpets, you may hear a good bit of discussion about Rosh Hashanna or the “Head of the Year” and that this marks the beginning of the Jewish civil calendar. Honestly, men do things… but it isn’t the actions or intentions of men that interest me – it’s the Word of the Living God.
This isn’t the Biblical new year – that happens fourteen days prior to Passover and there are no if’s and’s or but’s about it. Rosh Hashanna is, simply put, a Rabbinic observance while Yom Teruah is a Biblical observance. Point being, there can only be one “New Year” per year and I stand by my assertion that the Creator of Time is the one who determines when that is.
Period.
Yom Teruah is the only holiday in which we are not given a specific reason for the observance, yet we find it listed among the commanded observances of YHVH:
The Lord spoke to Moses: “Tell the Israelites, ‘In the seventh month, on the first day of the month, you must have a complete rest, a memorial announced by loud horn blasts, a holy assembly. You must not do any regular work, but you must present a gift to the Lord.’”
Leviticus 23: 23 – 25
The prominent Judaic view holds that Yom Teruah heralds the coming of Yom Kippur – the Day of Atonement, which follows ten days later. It is, in this very pragmatic view, a clarion call to repentance for His people – a time to reflect, repent and to seek right-standing before the Lord. This ten-day period is colloquially known in Judaism as “the Days of Awe”. If you’ve read the article series The End of the Age, you likely know that I personally hold that there’s more to this observance, but I also firmly believe that the perception described herein is dead-on accurate; is it not appropriate that as we approach the Holiest day of the year, that a call go forth to awaken and alert His people that this is the case?
I highlight this now because this year in particular, i believe that our collective grasp of this and, our subsequent corporate repentance is paramount in importance. It is paramount because this precedes the manifestation of things we’ve collectively asked for an prayed over for generations. Allow me to explain…
For most of my life, I have listened to and even participated in prayers and calls for a great revival of faith throughout the world – for the awakening of the world to the reality of God and of His Messiah. This revival is coming – one way or another – it is coming.
Likewise, I have heard and participated in prayers focused o the overturning of Roe vs. Wade in the United States – the Supreme Court Decision by which infanticide maintains a status of legality in this nation. The overturning of this unjust law is coming – one way or another.
I have heard and participated in prayers for an outpouring of justice – the exposition of corruption which is even now manifesting itself in very obvious ways throughout the world and exposing the fact that there is indeed a two-tiered system of justice wherein the wealthy and influential do not receive the same “justice” for their actions as the the so-called “unwashed masses”. This outpouring is coming – one way or another.
Now, before we continue, I want to remind you of a simple, yet very relevant biblical precept; that “… Judgement begins with the house of God” – 1 Peter 4:17 and this will be no different. God always deals with His own before He deals with “others”, and we should expect no less, after all His word will “…not return unto Him void” – Isaiah 55:11.
I believe that we are standing at a precipice – the fulfillment of promises He has made and spoken through His servants, the prophets, is coming soon upon us and it is incumbent upon us, as His people, to align ourselves with His word and will… and to repent for our sloth, misdeeds and even our willful ignorance of those maters which stand in defiance of Him.
All of this stems from the following:
… if my people, who bear my name, will humble themselves, pray, seek my face and turn from their evil ways, I will hear from heaven, forgive their sin and heal their land.
2 Chronicles 7:14 CJB
Many would rightly point out that this passage refers to the Jews, and would rightfully claim that this has been misapplied and even abused for centuries. Obviously, I agree, however, that is not end of the debate and I provide the following counter to any argument that I am misusing or abusing this passage here:
For a person is not a Jew who is one outwardly, nor is circumcision something that is outward in the flesh, but someone is a Jew who is one inwardly, and circumcision is of the heart by the Spirit and not by the letter. This person’s praise is not from people but from God.
Romans 2:28 – 29
Once again; Don’t Call Me ‘Gentile’.
Here’s the crux of it all – we need to collectively repent. Believers… this means you. We need to repent personally and corporately for those sins both known and unknown, intentional and unintentional, of inclusion, omission, action and inaction.
For the sin of remaining silent when i should have raised my voice – I repent.
For the sin of inaction when I should have acted – I repent.
For the sin of failing to stand up for the helpless as billions of innocent children were slaughtered within their mother’s wombs – I repent.
For busying myself with the inane and ignoring the call to righteousness – I repent.
For fearing the the spirit of this age more than the Spirit of the Living God – I repent.
This year, let the sound of the Shofar call us all to repent and seek right alignment and right standing with the Word of the Living God. I pray that as the call goes forth, the trumpet blast will pierce us all to the very core of our being. I pray that from this, a righteous army will arise and go forth in His perfect will.
Let the shofar blare throughout Israel. Let it blare throughout my nation. Let it blare throughout the world.
The King is coming…
