Do you recall the television show Kung Fu? If so, then you’ll recall the many interactions between Kwai Chang and Master Po… and perhaps that there was veritably no circumstance or situation from which Po could not derive a teachable moment.
Did you know that God is like this? He frequently surprises me with little words of wisdom in the midst of a situation, circumstance or even just a project around the house. Today, I want to share such a word with you and explore some of the ramifications of it. I think you’ll find they’re quite far-reaching.
Following the release of An Audience of One, the Lord began to release more music to me and, in an effort to improve my developing recording and mixing skills, I began to seek out more information and sources on the matter. Not that I had encountered any shortage of such information previously, but my needs are becoming decidedly more honed. As I searched, I found an interesting fellow named Bobby Huff. Turns out, despite his rather silly up-front approach, this man has a wealth of knowledge and information that he shares freely and, having applied some of this stuff, I can say confidently, this man knows what he is talking about!
As I perused the wealth of content this man presents, I came across a series he produced called “The Little Things”. In this series, Bobby presents a number of production tips and tricks that, in and of themselves, do seem quite small. Once applied however, the difference these actions make is astonishing – so much so that I wanted to go back and re-touch everything I’d just released. Maybe someday, but right now the way is forward.
There’s a little introductory song specific to this series that sums up the point of the content, and even the point of this post:
The little things aren’t little after all
Bobby Huff ~ ca. 2020
They all add up even though they’re small
We recommend you don’t deny ’em
Get off your ass and try ’em
They’re bigger than you think…
The little things
So, like the song says, as I applied each little tip this man provided, the changes I heard in clarity to the music I was working on was exponential ~ basically, little changes, BIG results. That’s when the Lord began to show me how this simple principle applies not only to projects such as mine, but to faith as well.
You see, there are a multitude of opportunities throughout each and every day that we can make the conscious decision to put God first in our lives and to obey His word. How we act, what we say and even how we think. A matter may seem small in the moment, but taking each and every thought captive and bringing them to the obedience of the Messiah builds a pattern of thought and behavior. This is, in fact, how disciples are made.
I for one found this to be brilliant, but I’ve no desire to belabor the topic. I think you get it.
Until next time,
