Judgement and Identity Politics in the Body

Judgement is coming – are you aware?

I’m not talking about the final judgement, or even anything “end-times” related – despite what some are saying, it isn’t that time yet. Scripture gives us very clear sings to look for. No I’m talking about an outpouring of tangible justice in the United States that will have ripple effects that will touch the entire globe. Matters we have waited, some of us for decades – are about to be dealt with by the highest authority in the Universe. “Equal justice under the law” is about to get very, very real.

There is a principle found throughout scripture that bears upon this however, and it is that judgment begins in the House of the Lord.

For it is time for judgment to begin, starting with the house of God. And if it starts with us, what will be the fate of those who are disobedient to the gospel of God?

1 Peter 4:17

While not always explicitly addressed as it is in 1st Peter, it is an overarching theme throughout much of the text that God deals with His own first, and only afterward, does He deal with “the Nations”.

What I am driving at here is that, before we fully realize this very desirable manifestation of Justice in America and throughout the world, we will first see judgement upon His people – Jew and Gentile alike – for sins both of commission and of omission. There are a myriad of them and honestly, if you don’t recognize that, you haven’t been paying attention. No offense, but seriously folks, it’s time to stop listening to the world and START listening to the King and to the King alone.

One of the issues that He has highlighted to me recently concerns “identity politics” in the body of believers and, trust me when I say that HE is not amused.

Back in May of 2019, I penned an article called Derisive is Divisive and this article, while focused on the schism between those identified as “Hebrew Roots” and the “Messianic” movement, it speaks to the heart of the issue I believe the Lord is pointing to presently.

On one hand, we have within the larger body of Messiah, the manifestation of identity politics which takes a stance that is obviously heretical and antithetical to the assertions of scripture. Homosexual and “trans-sexual” pastors and congregants leaps to mind – but this is far from the only example of my point. The fact is, the Bible says what it says and quite frankly, if we go about the task of removing or ignoring those portions of scripture which contradict or repudiate our own positions, then we cannot rightly call ourselves followers, or disciples of God or the Messiah – we are in fact, concocting a religion in our own image.

On the other hand, there exist issues within the church that are far less severe, but in which I see division where their need not be one – and it is my experience that such are generally founded within the manner in which we identify ourselves with our beliefs. Often, such issues bring about divisions wherein like-minded persons band together… which only makes sense.

The problem arises when we start to listen only to those voices that essentially echo our existing viewpoint. Slowly we become entrenched within a specific framework and essentially decry any voice or viewpoint which dissents from our established “orthodoxy”. As I stated in the linked article, this constitutes an echo chamber and prohibits further growth and understanding. If we insulate ourselves and refuse to listen to, or consider those voices which may challenge our current understandings or beliefs, how can we grow in said understanding?

But set Christ apart as Lord in your hearts and always be ready to give an answer to anyone who asks about the hope you possess.

1 Peter 3:15

We are not instructed to shy away from differing viewpoints or to ostracize those who hold them, but rather to “… take every thought captive to make it obey Christ.” (2 Corinthians 10:5) .

Here’s my point – if we adhere to denominational doctrine and refuse to hear and consider other viewpoints, we are refusing to learn and refusing to teach. If a viewpoint stands the test of scripture, yet conflicts with our current views, then we must – as ardent students of scripture – consider the issue and bring it before the Lord… this is how we grow in understanding.

Likewise, if we encounter views that do not stand the test of scripture, it is incumbent upon us to offer correction – to be the dissenting view in such an instance. In so doing, we uphold the both the principles of taking every thought captive, and that which is found in Matthew 18.

To cut to the chase, here’s where I am going with this:

Adonai, my strength, my fortress, my refuge in time of trouble, the nations will come to you from the ends of the earth, saying, “Our ancestors inherited nothing but lies, futile idols, completely useless.”

Jeremiah 16:19 CJB

I submit that the identity politics we see playing culturally today – both in and outside of the church, qualify as such an idol.

Is it truly so unfathomable that we could be among the generation that begins to recognize the lies we’ve been taught and begins to reconcile faith with the Word of God? We can… and we are. But only those willing to hold their beliefs to the test, to give answer for their faith and to accept the generous correction of the Lord will ascertain and lay hold of actual truth. That’s not my opinion, that’s an underlying thesis found through the breadth of scripture.

It is not my intention to belabor this discussion with an exhaustive look at the issue of identity politics and theology – but to highlight the fact that judgment is coming. God will judge this, as He will many of the devices by which the enemy – and we ourselves – have brought division. Likewise, He will judge the nations.

Your nation.

My nation.

Not at some point in the far distant future, but soon and very soon. Baphomet is dethroned – Jezebel is cast down and all of the tools and systems of the wicked, used to oppress the masses and empower themselves are about to be exposed and overthrown.

I for one look forward with great anticipation, after all, the Lord disciplines those He loves and on the other side of that discipline, for those who accept His correction, lies restoration and unity.

Even so, come Lord Yeshua
