Down the Rabbit Hole – Part One

This content has been archived. It may no longer be relevant

Alright, so we’re going to begin a series here that is sure to be controversial, but in classic form, I don’t really care. Truth is, regardless of perception or belief – and that is unilaterally true about all things.

So let me begin at what was, for me, the beginning…

As a young boy I recall watching television with my mother. An advertisement aired for a special Time Magazine issue wherein they were recounting the past fifty-some years of world history. At one point, the narrator made an ominous statement (I don’t really recall exactly what it was), and a picture of Adolf Hitler flashed across the screen. Having no idea who that was or what was being inferred, I turned to my mom and asked; “who is that?”

“A very evil man,” my mother replied.

These words boomed through my being; this was something my mother had never so much as eluded to with regards to another human being.

Ever.

Being possessed of an analytical mind, I wanted to know why my mother would characterize someone in the same manner she would characterize the devil himself, and so I set out to learn about who this man really was and why he was so universally reviled. I mean, sure, I got some manner of explanation from my mother and father, but in truth, these only raised more questions – questions I knew I’d have to search out were I to find adequate answers.

See, here’s the thing – I could not understand what would lead someone to not only desire such personal, political power, but to employ this power in such a way as to seek out the eradication of an entire ethnicity. Over time and much research, a picture would emerge that indicted not only the man himself, but those who enable him and, ultimately the cultural world-view of the day that permitted such an atrocious mind from laying hold of the German people. Make no mistake, given their strong militaristic, Prussian heritage and the political climate of the day, this was highly strategic.

Alas, I am getting ahead of myself.

It’s no big secret at this point that Hitler and the Nazi regime held an unhealthy fascination, an obsessive fixation on all things occult. Here we see the fingerprints of the real culprit behind the holocaust but that, again, is running ahead of things. The question I had as I begin to uncover these bizarre truths was this; how the hell did this kind of supernatural – and outright demonic – thinking grip and entire culture?

Helena Blavatsky

Helena Petrovna Blavatsky is the co-founder of the Theosophical society, established in 1875.

Theosophy put forward ideas regarding spirituality and spiritualism that differed from what had been accepted among the more “mainstream” line of thinking. It, for all intents and purposes began to shift the mindset of man to something even more esoteric and “new age” than what had preceded it. It draws from several sources of spirituality and, although it certainly attempts to abscond with biblical persons and events, is most definitely not informed by biblical theology in any way shape or form.

Theosophy, while it did not originate all of these, certainly promoted a number of concepts we still see as prominent among the more esoteric and “new age” belief systems today;

  • The idea that the spirits one contacts are not the spirits of the dead and departed, but something else
  • The idea of “Ascended Masters”
  • The idea “all roads” reach the same end (universalism)
  • The Maitreya
  • Reincarnation and Karma
..“There is no religion higher than truth”

These are but to name a few – it is not my purpose to present or refute Theosophical beliefs as a whole, but to illuminate one of the prominent sources for spiritualism, sorcery and witchcraft that led to the rise of the Third Reich, and which we still see at work in the world today.

Under-girding the theosophical belief system was and is a number of precepts that I think you’ll see are integral to many anti-biblical belief systems. Chief among these are the tenants of Evolutionary Cosmology. What I mean is the belief that, even in the face of strong spiritual beliefs, theosophy holds to evolution as the tool, the very mechanism of creation.

As with many esoteric societies, much of their true nature is revealed within their chosen symbolism. Note the image to the left and let’s discuss the symbolism herein in order to better understand the intended meaning.

  • The top of the logo consists of “Aum” or “Om” in snaskrit and is considered in Hindu theology to be the sound uttered by the creating entity ~ note that scripture records this vocal act of creation as having been “Yehi-Or” – אור יהי.
  • Underneath this, we have a Swastika which is an ancient symbol, used to convey a number of meanings throughout different cultures and times. It, in fact, predates it’s use as the logo for the National Socialist Part by thousands of years. It is reported to have represented divinity and spirituality. You seeing a theme of eastern-mysticism?
  • Next we have, surrounding the rest of the logo and suspending the swastika, an ouroboros. Here we go again with the freaking snakes. This symbol – that of a serpent swallowing it’s own tail – is intended to convey an eternal cycle. Personally, I just see the rebel trying to undo his own, self-inflicted demise.
  • Within this, we have what many would call the Star of David… but that, as with most things esoteric and occult, is not so cleanly cut. This six-pointed star far predates the time of King David ad there is a rather significant debate as to whether or not it is the Star of Rephan referenced in Acts 7:43.
  • Within this, we have an Ankh. Oh look everyone… Egypt again. Have you ever noticed how often Egyptian symbolism pops up? Ever ask yourself why?

Now, obviously we don’t find the tenants of National Socialism and Antisemitism here, at least not on the surface – but I didn’t bring this up to levy such an accusation. I am pointing to this movement, in this time-frame as being foundational for movements that would come at a future point. It isn’t to say that Theosophy is the bedrock of the Nazi party and the holocaust, but that it promotes a world-view which enables such.

What we do find is yet another, in a long string of ideologies which sought (and still seek) to rediscover ancient, lost knowledge and understanding. The questions I would raise are, “what knowledge?” and “should we?

Until next time,
